Students will learn and train in the Japanese martial art of Aikido. Aikido is a defensive oriented art in which the person attacked uses the attacker's own energy against them to control the situation. The techniques of Aikido most resemble ju jitsu and judo (joint locks and throws) rather than the punches and kicks of karate, kung fu, or tae kwon do.
Physical as well as philosophical aspects will be involved in the training.
Previous martial arts experience is not necessary. New members are welcome to join at any time. There is no cost to participate in the club.
Meetings/practices are held in the wrestling room (normally), from 2:30-3:30 on Wednesday afternoons. Students must provide their own ride home. Clothing for practice should be lose and comfortable. Long sweats and a t-shirt are fine. Shorts and tank tops are not recommended. A martial arts uniform is not required for the club, but if students have one they want to wear they are welcome to.
Questions should be directed to Mr. J. Clark in room D215.
